Weekend preview: 3/15 – 3/18; Rebels play 3; can clinch third straight regular season East Division title

The Rebels will play three games this weekend. If they win two of them they will clinch their third straight regular season East Division championship.

The first two games will be played today at 5:30pm and tomorrow at 7:35pm against the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights at the Revolution Ice Centre. Sunday’s game will be played at 3:05pm against the New Jersey Titans at the Class of 1923 Arena. Sunday’s game is a makeup between the two teams which resulted from the October 8th contest being suspended due to fog conditions at the bunker.

Rebels vs. Knights Overview
This will be the tenth and eleventh times these two teams will meet this season out of twelve games. The Rebels have won six of the nine games outscoring the Knights by a total score of 30 – 19. The last time these two teams met was last weekend when the Rebels defeated the Knights both games by a score of 3 – 0. Two of the three wins the Knights have against the Rebels this season have been on home ice.

Matt Kidney leads the Knights in total points against the Rebels with eight (1 goal and 7 assists).  Justin Engelkes (2 goals and 5 assists) and Mike Gelatt (4 goals and 3 assists) each have seven points against the Rebels. Gelatt has the most goals against Philadelphia with four. The Knights are 4 for 31 (13%) on the powerplay. Rebels vs. Titans Overview
Sunday’s game will be the last time these two teams meet during the regular season. This has been a very tight series. Despite winning nine out of the fifteen games the Rebels only have outscored the Titans 40 – 37. The last time these two teams met was back on March 2 and 3 for a home-and-home series with each team winning their respective home game. The Titans blanked the Rebels 4 – 0 on March 3. Four of the six Titans’ wins have been at the Class of 23 Arena.

Tyler Antonucci leads the Titans in points against the Rebels with ten (2 goals and 8 assists). Andrew Husted has eight points (3 goals and 5 assists) and Matthew Cameron has seven points (6 goals and 1 assist) against the Rebels this year. Cameron has scored the most goals against them with six. The Titans are 6 for 49 (12%) on the powerplay against Philadelphia. Goaltenders Matt Ladd and Brandon Perrone have a combined 2.60 goals against average and a .9171 save percentage with one shutout (Ladd).

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights Overview
The Knights enter this weekend in third place in the East Division with a 24-20-5-1 record for 54 points. They are twenty-one points behind the Rebels and four points behind second place New Jersey.  WBS has won two of its last five games, and they are coming off of a 3 – 0 road loss to the Rebels. Jack Olmstead (21 goals and 23 assists) leads the team in total points with 44. Kidney is second on the team in total points with forty (15 goals and 25 assists). Olmstead also leads the team in goals with twenty-one. Olmstead, Reed Robinson and Michael Morrissey each have three game winning goals. Kidney leads the team in penalty minutes with 77. Defenseman Thomas Farrell has the team’s best +/- with a +12.

The Knights have scored 140 goals in fifty games (seventeenth in the NAHL). They also have allowed 162 goals (fifteenth most allowed in the league). The Knights are ranked twenty-second in the league on the powerplay having scored on 14.1% of their chances while they are ranked third in the league on the penalty kill having prevented the opposition from scoring 84.7% of the time.

Stoever and Tomeo have a combined 3.05 goals against average and a .910 save percentage with no shutouts.

New Jersey Titans Overview
Prior to meeting the Rebels on Sunday, New Jersey will play WBS on Saturday night at Middletown’s Ice World. The Titans enter this weekend with a 25-17-6-2 record with 58 points.  They currently reside in second place, seventeen points behind division leading Philadelphia. The Titans have won two of their last five games, and they are coming off of a 3 – 2 overtime home loss to the Johnstown Tomahawks. Nick Boyagian (18 goals and 21 assists) and Hunter Alden (9 goals and 30 assists) lead the team with thirty-nine points respectively. Matthew Cameron leads the team in goals with nineteen. Ryan Naumovski has the most game winning goals with five. Cam Kuhl leads the team in penalty minutes with 117. Spencer Stanley has the best +/- ratio with a league high +38.

New Jersey has scored 169 goals (fourth best in the NAHL) in fifty games. They also have allowed 142 (ninth best in the league).  The Titans are sixth in the league on the powerplay (23.5%) while they are nineteenth in the league on the penalty kill with at 72.2%.

Perrone and Ladd have a combined 2.54 goals against average and a .922 save percentage with two shutouts (one each).

Rebels Overview
The Rebels enter this weekend with a 36-12-3 record for 75 points. They are in first place in the division, and they are seventeen points ahead of the second place Titans. The Rebels are 4 – 1 in their last five games, and they are coming off of a 3 – 0 home win against the Knights.

Aaron Maguyon leads the Rebels in total points with forty-three (20 goals and 23 assists). Luke Radetic is second on the team with forty-two points (22 goals and 20 assists). Patrick (18 goals and 20 assists) has thirty-eight points. Radetic leads the team in goals with twenty-two. Peck has five game winning goals.
